HOW TO GET YOUR MP3 ON YOUR PHONE AS A RINGTONE - REALLY WORKS- I DID IT!!

Okay, after reading it somewhere, I tried and succeeded. I used bluetooth connection on my Laptop & Linked it straight to my phone and used file transfer. On the PC, I browsed the phone to a folder called 'my music' and dropped my mp3 there. Once I did that, it instantly showed up and ready to "set as ringtone" My mp3 file was edited to only 15 seconds. I believe I used Nero editor to shorten the clip. I am happy now. Thank You Verizon for making me spend over 6 hours trying to figure this out!!! Email me if you have any questions....

Very cool. This is mentioned online and in the VZW forums. Still, I believe it's the only working explanation on this site
Too bad there's only 100MB of space eh?

Hey! Oh my gosh! Can we do it without using Blue Tooth, but instead--the USB cord that Verizon provided us with? I can add mp3/music files using the USB connection and syncing.. but when I view the song on my phone, it won't let me use it as a ringtone.
Help please!

I just did this and it worked. Thank you! I did not see the 'My Music' folder but I did get access to the 'My Sounds' folder. I was able to access that .mp3 and I had the option to set it as a ringtone. Very cool.

Where did you see that option? I had a bunch of short (300kb, 24 seconds) files that I dropped into my_music, then my_sounds and finally my_ringtones. These were files that worked fine on my Voyager, but for some reason, I either cannot get the Reality to see them or when it does, I can;t find an option to save as ringtones. When I try play them on the cellphone after disconnecting the usb, I can't find any option for saving anything as a ringtone. I'll check the forums, but if anybody can reply to this - most appreciated.

I went through the bluetooth interface on my computer to sent the files. I double clicked my Bluetooth icon on system tray (bluetooth devices), double clicked SCH-U820, then clicked 'Send Files to your phone'.(SCH-U820). This opens up the Bluetooth FTP Wizard. From there there's an interface to select the files to send and you click 'Browse files'. Select your file, then click 'Next'. Now it says SCH-U820, select destination folder. click to expand. Your phone prompts you: 'pc name' requests a connection accept or reject? Click 'accept' on your phone. On your computer you see the following folders: Images, Sounds, Videos, Shared and External. Select Sounds. Your phone will prompt to accept or reject the connection again. Then on your computer you start to see "copying file, creating FTP connection. Go back to your phone and get into 'music and tones' select 'my sounds'. Your file should be there.
You might have different bluetooth software on your computer. I have Widcomm Bluetooth Software 6.20.6600 downloaded from Dell. Hardware listed as Dell Wireless 370 Bluetooth Mini Card and Microsoft Bluetooth enumerator. Windows Vista 64-bit SP2.

Anyone know how to do it
without
Bluetooth?
I have an MicroSD card. So far, I'm able to move photos onto my phone and to my computer
however
, I can't seem to get songs as ringtones still.
I tried this method:
http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php/1639478-Samsung-Reality-sch-u820-hidden-menu-codes-amp-ringtones-with-out-using-data
Quote
Ringtones with out send text mssg's no data usage at all yaaa
hook the Samsung Reality sch-u820 cell up to the computer with the usb cable it came with
go to the menu button on the main screen (four small boxs)
bottom right coner click into it
go into settings & tools (bottom right again)
click into option 2 "Tools"
click into option 0 "USB Mass Storage"
Calls are temp. disable when conteceted to PC call disabled
on computer open to view files on computer or go to my computer click Removable Disk
that was just added go to folder labed "my_ringtones" add sounds and ringtones here
to create new ringtones on cell
disconnet cell and restart cell phone
now go in to sound settings and ringtones and you will see your new ringtones
to edit or make ringtone you can use pitbim program save to some folder and paste in the
"my_ringtones" folder
file viewer if you want to view the files on the Samsung Reality sch-u820
you can use QPST 2.7 Build 323 or any QPST vs you can find try google to find it
But I don't see the song I put into the my_ringtones or my_sounds on my phone..

Most of us have tried that. Unfortunately, as you see, it doesn't work. Verizon has seemed to have locked out the ability to transfer .mp3 ringtones via USB. I read that it works with other phones. Hopefully some day BitPim will support the Reality.

OKAY, I AM PRETTY SURE THERE IS NO OTHER WAY TO DO IT YET OTHER THAN BLUETOOTH. I DID TRY IT BY MULTIMEDIA TEXT AND IT COMPRESSED THE SONG SO MUCH IT SOUNDED TERRIBLE. I AM A NEWBIE TO THIS SITE BUT NOT TO PHONES. I HAVE HACKED MANY PHONES IN THE PAST AND THIS ONE IS PRETTY WELL LOCKED OUT BY VERIZON. BLUETOOTH TO ALL YOU JUST READING AND WASTING TIME TRYING OTHER METHODS. BLUETOOTH IS THE ONLY WAY TO GET IT. BLUETOOTH.

My girlfriend and I have the Reality. She tried everyhing but Bluetooth. What worked for her was to email the mp3 to herself and download the attachment on her phone. She said the attachment downloaded as an image file but was placed in the proper music folder. From there she was able to select the mp3 as a ringtone. I haven't tried it myself... yet.

Hi, I'm new to the forum.
It seems a lot of people have trouble getting ringtones on their phone.
You can get PureVoice player/converter free from Qualcomm.
You can preview mp3 or qcp files right on your PC.
It will convert mp3 files to qcp files which can be put directly into the ringtone folder on your SD card and the Reality will see them as ringtones. There are other shareware programs I have found that can do more with the mp3 before converting. Like shrink it to 30 sec. for you.
Just a thought.

Can't seem to get ringtones on the phone after following the directions on this thread. My phone keeps saying 'unsupported file type', even though its an .mp3. I have my ring tones set to around 30 sec., but it still wouldn't read it. Anyone have a solution as to why my phone is not able to receive the tones? My hardware for the Bluetooth is a Microsoft Bluetooth Enumerator/Dell Wirelesss 350 Bluetooth Module.
Thanks.

Thanks, I finally got real music as my ringtone. First I edited my song (trimmed) with Audacity. Audacity was a free download. Then I saved that mp3 file as a wav in a folder I named converted files (click on file export as). Next I opened the QPC converter (free trial download) then imported the newly trimmed files from my converted files folder to the QPC program, pressed convert and they were done. I saved them back into my converted files folder. Then followed the directions on how to drop them into the my_ringtones folder and voila, there they were.

I just registered, simply to say thank you for this.
I was trying to figure out how to get ringtones back on my phone - it was so easy to do with my env touch - and PureVoice just wasn't cutting it.
Then, I stumbled onto this forum, purchased a USB/Bluetooth device, installed it, and VOILA! I now have my favorite songs as ringtones
THANK YOU!
