Music reboots my phone

This is probably covered somewhere else but I'm having a miserable time searching for it, so here goes:
Just picked up an 8g micro, formatted in phone, put about 812mb worth of music in my_music folder. No problem finding and getting said tunes to play; however, after 2-4 songs the white Verizon screen pops up, freezes, then it kicks back to my normal screen and re-refreshes the music library. That's about 50% the time, the other half when it comes back from the Verizon screen and I go to music player it tells me no external memory detected.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

others have mentioned this as well on the VZW forums.
the freezing could be related to your mobile e-mail app. is that turned on for you, and if so, do you have the notifications on? if so, then turn the notifications to off.

This is happening to me also. If it doesn't reboot, then the music just goes silent. On Howard forums, there's a thread making mention of this and the thinking is that it's only when using headphones. I concur. I also turned off the email notifications and it still goes silent when transitioning between songs at times. Yes, this is only when using headphones.

Well so far yes, it seems to be working just fine without headphones or earbuds plugged in. I've only ever used an older pair of Skull Candy though, so I suppose I'll give some other pairs a try.

Still cuts out. Without the headphones it'll last 15-20 songs instead of only a small handful... Tried a few different types of headphones too and they all have the same result.

this is rather odd and very disconcerning....
wish I could help you out more, but have you ruled out that the songs could be corrupted, or if you have any that are in a different format?
are you able to identify which specific songs the phone freezes up on?

Nope, it's a real crap shoot. It'll freeze up on one and then play clear through the next 5 tries.

I did some playing around with the corrupt song or CD idea and found that 1 CD seemed to cause problems with playback on my phone only. It plays fine on Itunes which I used to convert it. Every time I put any songs off this CD on my phone it would do that reboot thing that seems to be a common complaint. This particular CD was not in very good condition and I usually check the box in Itunes that says to use error correction. I'm still adding full CD's to my phone without problems. Every once in while I will toss a song from the suspect CD on and it always causes the reboot. When I delete it the problem goes away. I'm not sure if this is help but I am have positive results so far. Also I am only adding 1 or 2 Cd's at a time for now between testing playback just in case I have more than 1 problem CD. I hope this has been helpful. I welcome any other ideas or solutions that anyone has tried with success.

this is very helpful taylorman, which reconfirms that the defect is not necessarily with the phone, but with the songs or the CD from which they came from.
thanks for your post!

Even on the U370 which is a re-issue of the Reality, I experienced the same problem reported in the first post when headphones are plugged into the phone while playing music. The phone then can't read anything on the memory card.
But I found an alternative to turning the phone off/on or pulling the battery out every time this issue occurred. Instead, there's a way to restart the phone that's like when you reboot the computer.
go to the menu button on the main screen (four small boxs)
go to the bottom right corner and click it
go into settings & tools (bottom right again)
either scroll to bottom of list click into phone settings and select 'Phone Info'
or press Fn plus the asterisk symbol from the keyboard
flip the phone open so the keyboard is showing
press and hold Fn (button) along with # (button) at the same time
Fn plus # goes into "Test & Info -- User Lock"
enter all 0's example: 000000
choose "1 Field Test Menu",
then choose "6 EVDO",
and then choose "2 Clear Session"
You'll then see this message appear on the screen: "Hdr session clear ok!"
The phone will now restart itself.
