I have about 10-15 mp3 files I want to turn into my ringtones, but most are longer than 2-3min and sending through my email (gmail) wont allow it. But if I can cut the file down to 30-40sec, it will send through my email. I just DL'd Audacity...but have no idea how to make it cut down my mp3 files into the 30-40sec duration I want for my ringtone. If anyone could help, lemme know.
Thanks

Once you have an .mp3 loaded into the Audacity Editor.

In the Box where you see the song has loaded,  Place your cursor where you want the Ringtone to start and drag it to the right.. watch the time counter (near the bottom) and stop dragging before or as you reach the 30 seconds position...  Under Edit, select trim.. what now remains is the portion of the .mp3 file you want as a Ringtone, Under File, Select Export as MP3..  Save your New Tone.......

Installing the Beta Now.... Updated .mp3 saving instructions to follow.......

The Beta needs this plugin ....

http://lame.buanzo.com.ar/

This Beta is more complicated then it...... well you know...

Once you download and install the 'lame' plugin'  we  have to point Audacity to it..
Edit....> select preferences,....>  half way down you will see libraries ... Select @ mp3 libraries..>  press locate... point it to C:\Program Files\Lame for Audacity\lame_enc.dll  Done!!!

Restart Program...  Make Tone... Select File.. Export... when you hit OK.. you will be able to save it in many  formats.. .mp3 included

LOL! Yes, you need the lame.dll file in order to export the MP3's - too bad I wasn't here earlier, I coulda made this thread a few posts shorter, lol - my Audacity actually doesn't have to be pointed to Lame.dll anymore - Lame just install itself and doesn't have to be manually located. Strange.

Yea we definitely could have used your Audacity experience earlier!!!    Smiley   LOL!!!!!

I installed the beta and the lame plug in..... all is well...

The Picture I posted first, was my portable Audacity..  the lame .dll resides right in the portable folder.
I didn't realize at first this user had picked the 'Beta', but you see all is well  in my last picture...
As it should be for him now toooo... Hope so anyways...  LOL

Could be if I had exited the Audacity program and just restarted it..after I installed the lame plugin,  i wouldn't have had to point either.. come to think of it Smiley  opps..

Yea, it used to be you had to direct the program to the Lame.dll so i'd put it in one of my folders, direct the program - then make it private so I never deleted it on accident but now it just installs where it needs to go - so much easier!

Thought it would help...but my 1.3 beta took a dump. It wont even load. If you take a look at my post with the picture, if you look at the top left part of the screen you can see the speaker sign and Windows DirectSound: Primary Sound Driver and the microphone to the right. Thats the only thing that pops up now...that little sliver of Audacity. I unistalled/reinstalled it and it keeps the same.
Crazy process for me, ugh...
