While reading the discussions on here about people's experiences with battery life, I was wondering if anyone experimented with forcing the Reality into 1x mode, i.e., turning off EVDO/3G.

One of the members here posted instructions on accessing the hidden factory menu: (link)

Since the Reality was recently re-released as the U370 (link), my family was considering buying one and was contemplating ahead of time the various ways we could try to improve the battery life.

Using the instructions in the aforementioned link, I was able to turn off EVDO.

Below is a paraphrased version of those intructions that I made for myself:

go to the menu button on the main screen (four small boxs)

go to the bottom right corner and click it

go into settings & tools (bottom right again)

either scroll to bottom of list click into phone settings and select 'Phone Info'
or press Fn plus the asterisk symbol from the keyboard

flip the phone open so the keyboard is showing

press and hold Fn (button) along with # (button) at the same time

Fn plus # goes into "Test & Info -- User Lock"

enter all 0's example: 000000

choose "1 Field Test Menu",

then choose "6 EVDO",

and then choose "1 Pref Mode"

there are three options to choose from:
   - Hybrid Mode
   - CDMA Only Mode
   - EVDO Only Mode

then with your fingertip choose "CDMA Only Mode" [you are NOT able to use the directional keys to navigate among those three options]

now exit

Thank you for this post.  I don't use a data plan with this phone right now, so saving the battery power is very useful.  Thank you.
