I've had the Samsung Reality in red since last August.  The phone had high ratings, being a 4 1/2 star rating on verizonwireless.com, so I bought this phone.  For about 4 months the phone was fine.  No problems, took a while to get used to since I had the LG Dare for 2 years, but I liked it.  Soon it started going crazy.  The phone will be locked with the black screen and it would magically light up, like I was getting a call, and would unlock itself by rolling up the lock screen.  Now, It always acts like it's charging when it's off the charger.  The phone charges, but it never says if its complete, and the individual battery bars never stop lighting up one by one.  Another big problem is that when the phone is closed, the screen will stay in the direction it goes when the phone is slid open and will go back and forth between the two screen directions.  It mainly does this when I am talking on the phone, so the person is taken on and off speaker every second making it impossible to hear them.  The phone has no water damage and everything else works fine.  I've rebooted the phone and have changed the battery.  This phone is only becoming a headache.

something could be wrong with the screen - have you tried getting a screen protector?  otherwise, I would ask for a replacement.

I found out (after missing every single Mother's Day call/text) that apparently we have to update the phone. Do this by dialing *228 then pick option 2. I had a couple of the problems you talked about as well and have not had any problems since I did that. Customer service told me every 30 days we need to update the phone.

Mine did this as well. Updating my phone didn't work AT ALL. I had to go in and get a new one. As long as you haven't had your phone for over a year, you can get a new one under warranty for free.
