Does this method work for other tools on the 370 as well? Would be awesome to sync the calendar events as well.  Thanks!

[note from Matt_:
I hope ajulm won't mind -- ajulm's post was a reply in a thread (link) about using BitPim to backup Notepad. I wanted to split off ajulm's posts into a separate topic to give more visibility to ajulm's question]

Hopefully someone will check that out; I haven't tried that.

By "other tools", what are some of the other tools are you referring to ?

I'm glad there are still human visitors to the forum; I was starting to wonder if most of the users logged in to the forum lately are just spambots judging from all the spam activity lately.

I'm primarily interested in backing up calendar events.  I just got my 370.  I previously had a Palm Centro without a data plan which allowed me to easily sync calendar events.  So far on my 370 I haven't been able to do this.  Also would like to be able to view files, but the fileviewer has its own issues. I tried yesterday to sync calendar events using BitPim and thought I had bricked my 370.  I took it to the store I got it from and they didn't know what to do and said I might have to call Verizon for a replacement.  It was stuck in a boot cycle.  I found a solution by taking out the battery, replacing the battery and then hitting volume down+send+end at the same time and it rebooted correctly.  Not sure what happened or if I didn't follow directions correctly.  So before I try again I wanted to know if anyone else had tried this.  Thanks for the help.

I gave it my best shot just now. I entered an event into the u370's calendar and then opened Bitpim.

(1)
I went to the middle column in Bitpim and clicked on every folder and looked at the list of contents in the third column. I found a BitPim entry that corresponds to the calendar entry. It's in the folder in the middle column 'sch_event'; and in the right hand column it has the name 'usr_tsk_000x' where x is some number. I could download it, and when I dragged the file into the computer's Notepad I saw the calendar information I had typed. So I deleted the entry from the phone's calendar, and then opened Bitpim and dragged and dropped the 'usr_tsk_000x' file into the folder where I found it. I rebooted the phone and was disappointed that the calendar entry wasn't restored. I don't know if some extra step is involved ?

(2)
In the left column, there are icons for different functions in Bitpim. I clicked on the calendar icon and then at the top left of the screen clicked on the 'get phone data' icon and ticked the box for importing calendar and even memo. I couldn't find anything corresponding the entry I made.

Here is some other information that I found after googling "samsung bitpim calendar" and "samsung reality calendar sync". I don't know if any of it can be useful for what you're trying to accomplish.

"The closest you could get is to send a calendar event via bluetooth to the phone."

"Samsung Reality Calendar"

"[...] If you purchase a bluetooth (USB) dongle (or maybe your computer is bluetooth ready) you can send Outlook appointments to your phone.  Once you pair your phone with your computer you can select an appoinment (or multiple appointments) from Outlook and then from the File menu you should see a "Send to Bluetooth" option.  Select your phone.  Your phone will then ask for permission to connect to your computer.  When you accept, the appointment will appear in your phone.  This is by no means a complete "sync" but this is not a smartphone.  The same system in reverse works to send appointments from the phone to Outlook.  A couple of things I have discovered: recurring appointments in Outlook sometimes don't appear as recurring in the Reality calendar, there appears to be a limit to the number of appointments you can have in the calendar and if you send an appointment from Outlook, which is already in your phone, it will repeat it or put it on another day.  Make sure to delete the old appointment before resending.  This system works pretty well for me.  You have to check both calendars regularly but I do that anyway.  As an aside, Google Calendar allows a seamless sync with Outlook and if you right click on a Google Calendar appointment there is a "Send to Bluetooth" option.  This allows me to check my work calendar when I'm away from my work computer and update Reality calendar appointments from my personal laptop [...]"

Regarding the file viewer, I had played around with trying to view some .jpg files and pdf files after using USB Mass Storage mode to put them into the 'my_files' folder on the memory card. I can view them, but there's a banner that you have to look through that says that this phone is not a u820 and that the file viewer was written for the u820.

Here's how I zoomed in/out while viewing the file:
