I thought it was really cool that this phone lets you enter such a gigantic amount of characters (1,000) for a Notepad entry.

But initially I was bummed that the phone doesn't offer a simple way of saving to somewhere your Notepad entries.

I have several times 100% successfully backed up and also restored two Notepad entries using BitPim and using this BitPim profile -- "SCH-U750 (Alias 2)" on auto [or COM20]. If you need additional details to help you make sense of the steps posted below, please see posts three and four.

Backing up entries:

- navigate to this folder:
  / note / notepad /

- if you wish to backup one notepad entry or one notepad entry at a time, right-click on the file called note_data_000... and click "save"

- if you wish to backup all the notepad entries at once, in the middle column right-click on the folder "notepad". From the pop-up choose Backup Directory.  Bitpim will read the files in the directory one at a time and create a ZIP file.  From the "Save As..." dialog box, browse to the folder on the PC you want to save to, adjust the file name (if needed) and then click SAVE. Full credit for how to backup all the entries at once belongs to this (link)

Restoring entries:

- To add the files back, just drag and drop into the BitPim folder:
 / note / notepad /

I even went so far as to back up the entries, delete the entries from the phone, and then restore the entries to the phone using BitPim. After this, it appears that using the phone I can still edit and lock the entries as if nothing out of the ordinary had ever happened.

Note: If you are restoring more than one Notepad entry, I don't know if the phone is fussy about the sequence of the files that you are restoring. I noticed that BitPim shows the entries as having the file "note_data_0001" last in the sequence.

Also, I haven't been brave enough yet to try backing up and restoring Notepad entries that are locked. I've only backed up and restored entries that were first in a state of being "unlocked"

Also, I haven't tried editing and adding to the Notepad entry after saving it onto the computer. I'm playing it safe for now.

I kept trying this without any luck.  I can't get into the file system directory through BitPim.  I tried with USB and with bluetooth.

Hi, I'm sorry for the belated response.

[Before reading the rest of this, for BitPim to communicate with the phone maybe a person has to first install the drivers for the phone. Since I've always installed the drivers for a phone prior to using USB Mass Storage mode for transferring music, videos and pictures, I don't know if BitPim requires those drivers in order to communicate with the phone. In other words, I haven't happened to use BitPim before when a phone's drivers are not on the computer. If the drivers ARE necessary and you haven't installed them yet on your computer, then maybe that's the only step that you're missing. I download the drivers from Verizon's website here: http://www.vzam.net/download/download.aspx ]

- after the Reality/u370 is plugged into the computer via the USB cable, don't put the phone into either "USB Mass Storage mode" or "Media Sync Mode"/"MTP". Instead, put the phone into "Modem Mode"

- if the phone's Bluetooth is on, turn it off. If it's off, keep it off

- launch BitPim

- If BitPim was previously set to "Detect phone at bitpim startup" in the BitPim settings, then BitPim might display this message:
"Phone Detection: Found Other CDMA phone on COM20"

Or on your computer maybe the COM number in this setting will be a different number. Regardless of what the COM number is in the message, just click "OK" to accept it because we'll being changing that setting in a moment

- at the top of the screen, click 'Edit' and then click 'Settings'

- in the screen "BitPim Settings", where it says "Phone Type" choose "SCH-U750 (Alias 2)"

- beneath "Phone Type" is "Com Port". Change that to auto

- at this point, this is all the configuring that I've needed to do in BitPim for the Reality/u370; I have the u370

- close the "BitPim Settings" screen and then at the main screen in the left-hand column single-click "Filesystem"

If you don't see "Filesystem" listed in the left-hand column, I'll tell you how to make it appear. At the top of the BitPim screen is 'File', 'Edit', 'Data', 'View', Debug', Help'
Click on 'View' and click 'View Filesystem'. In the left-hand pane, 'Filesystem' will now appear above the word 'Log'

- then in the middle column click the "+" next to the file folder and then during the next few seconds BitPim will read the phone's files and file folders and display them on the screen in the middle column. At this point then follow the instructions in my first post.

For fun if you wish to connect the phone to BitPim via Bluetooth to backup or restore the Notepad entries, these are the steps that worked for me. I adapted them from this (link)

- leave BitPim off, turn on Bluetooth on the computer and turn on Bluetooth on the phone. And during the steps below we won't be connecting the phone to the computer via the USB cable at any point

NOTE: the steps below assume that you've previously paired the phone with the computer

- my computer's Bluetooth identified the following services that the phone uses:

"Dial-up networking (DUN)"
"Serial port (SPP) 'BT DIAG'"

- on the computer ENable "Serial port (SPP) 'BT DIAG'"

- After the computer's Bluetooth detects the BT DIAG COM, I saw this message:

Port: COM22
Direction: Ougoing
Name: SCH-U370 'BT DIAG'

- Then just open BitPim, turn off any of the "automatically detect phone" settings, and don't use them. Set the port to what you saw* and use "SCH-U750 (Alias 2)" as the phonetype and you should be good to go.

* For example,
If you saw COM22, then in the "BitPim Settings" screen where it says "Com Port" enter COM22. Don't enter just 22; I found out through trial and error it has to be COM22

- close the "BitPim Settings" screen and then at the main screen in the left-hand column single-click "Filesystem"

- then in the middle column click the "+" next to the file folder and then during the next few seconds BitPim will read the phone's files and file folders and display them on the screen in the middle column. At this point then follow the instructions in my first post.

NOTE: after you click the "+" next to the file folder, it took BitPim about a minute to read the phone's files and file folders. By comparison, it took BitPim a much shorter amount of time to read the phone's files and file folders when the phone was connected to the computer and to BitPim via USB cable
